  • 1 tsp salt
  • 125 g unsalted butter (chilled and cubed)
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 125 ml cold water
  • 450 g potato (peeled and diced)
  • 150 g swede/rutabaga (peeled and diced)
  • 150 g onion (diced)
  • 300 g skirt steak or sirloin steak (diced)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter (for filling)
  • 1 egg (beaten, for glazing)


Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pastry: In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in chilled butter until crumbly. Combine egg yolks with cold water, mix into flour mixture until a dough forms. Wrap in cling film and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  2. Cook Filling: Boil potato, swede, and onion until tender; drain and cool. In a skillet, brown diced steak with salt and pepper; combine with cooled vegetables and butter.
  3. Preheat Oven: Set oven to 200°C (400°F).
  4. Assemble Pasties: Roll out dough on a floured surface. Cut circles, fill with mixture, top with another dough circle, seal edges well.
  5. Bake: Brush with beaten egg. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
